Synopsis

The eagerly anticipated new film from writer/director Gustav Möller (THE GUILTY), Sons is a gripping moral thriller that offers an extraordinary showcase for the remarkable Sidse Babett Knudsen (BORGEN, WILDLAND) in the leading role. Idealistic Eva (Babette Knudsen) works in the minimum-security ward of a correctional facility, overseeing the incarcerated men with an almost maternalistic sense of compassion, guiding them in meditations and showing genuine interest in - and empathy for - their wellbeing. But all this changes when Mikkel (Sebastian Bull), a swaggering offender, is transferred to the facility, and without revealing her motives to her superiors, Eva requests to be reassigned to his high-security block. So begins an unsettling and dangerous game of cat and mouse in which Eva’s increasingly unhealthy preoccupation with Mikkel challenges her belief in restorative justice, and places much more than her job at stake. Moller’s atmospheric new thriller packs a genuine punch and is a must-see for fans of both Scandi noir and its phenomenal star, who delivers arguably a career-best performance.

Awards & Reviews

A tough, taut character study of a woman driven, against all better judgement, to increasingly reckless and dangerous acts.
