Synopsis
The mountainous landscapes of Norway provide the monumental backdrop for the cinematic nature experience of the year, executive produced by Wim Wenders and Liv Ullmann. Guided by her 84-year-old vigorous trekker father Jørgen, who has been exploring Norway’s wilderness all his life, we are invited by filmmaker Margreth Olin to explore stunning vistas of glaciers, waterfalls, and fjords of the Oldedalen valley in western Norway. Here, their family has always lived side by side with nature. Even when the earth’s primordial forces have shown their most merciless side. Embarking on an existential journey with her parents, Olin's parents’ love and lifelong loyalty are the beating heart of this documentary, and they bear quiet witness to how their surroundings and inner space resonate with each other. Featuring a sumptuous score by Rebekka Karijord and the London Symphony Orchestra and breathtaking cinematography by Lars Erlend Tubaas Øymo; SONGS OF EARTH is a lyrical and visionary poem to Olin’s homeland and a stunning, cinematic work about life, death, nature and simply being present in the world.
