Synopsis
Set in the final months of WWII, this touching, intelligent drama explores the unimaginable dilemmas that people must face in the wake of war. When a high school in occupied Denmark is turned into a camp for 500 German refugees, the headmaster Jakob (Pilou Asbæk, GAME OF THRONES, BORGEN), his wife Lis (Katrine Greis-Rosenthal, A TASTE OF HUNGER) and their children are thrust into an impossible situation. Should the family help the refugees - or stand firm in the Danish resistance against the Germans? Anti-German sentiment is prolific in the town after five years of occupation and the Danish resistance takes a hardline stance against all Germans – including women and children. Inspired by true events, it depicts a dark chapter in the history of Denmark - the handling of 250,000 German civil refugees who came to Denmark in the spring of 1945. Written and directed by Academy Award-winner Anders Walter, BEFORE IT ENDS is an earnest drama that delves into complex moral dilemmas through a family under pressure, exploring the limits of charity.
