Sundance award-winning director Anne Sewitsky reunites with a stunning Ine Marie Wilmann after Homesick (Scandi FF 2015) for this engaging portrayal of Norwegian Olympic figure skating champion and a Hollywood movie star Sonja Henie.
In the 1930s, Sonja Henie, (a commanding Wilmann), rose to become one of the world's greatest athletes and the inventor of modern figure skating, crowning her with the title of ‘The White Swan’. Her meeting with 20th Century Fox chieftain Darryl Zanuck resulted a four-picture deal with her as star, shooting Henie’s career to new heights as her first film broke box office records, selling the most tickets in the world in 1937. But as the years progressed, Henie’s ruthless determination to stay in the spotlight combined with debt and drinking problems fuelled a disastrous ultimate fall from grace in both her career and personal life. This energetic biopic brings an illuminating perspective of a powerful female’s achievements in an era of patriarchy, and the lengths she would go to in order to succeed.
