This Festival we celebrate the stellar careers of iconic Scandinavian screen sirens Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo and Britt Ekland. Throughout the 20th century, the silver screen played host to these stars from the Nordic region who all became known internationally for their screen presence, beauty and charm.

Swedish-American Greta Garbo, one of the most glamorous and popular motion-picture stars of the 1920s and ’30s, shines as Queen Christina in this historical drama about the monarch who must choose between duty and love.


In the iconic romantic drama Casablanca, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary, Ingrid Bergman delivers a career-defining performance as a woman torn between two men in French Morocco during World War II.

The Serpent's Egg

Set amidst the social decay of the 1920s in the Weimar Republic, Liv Ullmann stars as a cabaret singer in this thriller from Ingmar Bergman, about an American circus performer who is desperate to make ends meet after his brother’s death.

The Wicker Man

Swedish star Britt Ekland plays the seductive daughter of the town leader in this folk horror cult classic, presented in its 2013 Final Cut version, about a puritan Police Sergeant who arrives in a Scottish island village in search of a missing girl.
